Jaimit Parikh joined IBM in November 2016. His current research work aims at predicting drug induced cardiotoxicity utilizing computational approaches that combine development and simulation of multiscale cardiac electrophyiology models and machine learning techniques.
Before joining IBM, Jaimit's research work focused on developing computational models of isolated and coupled vascular cells (endothelial and smooth muscle cells) to understand the molecular mechanisms and physiology of vessel tone regulation. In particular, he utilized the mathematical models to systematically examine the effect of heterogeneous distribution of cellular components and channel gating kinetics to regulate spatiotemporal calcium and nitric oxide dynamics, which are critical in vascular tone regulation. The models provided a theoretical framework that can aid in the design of biological experiments and help Iilluminate areas of conceptual deficiency.
