Juhnyoung Lee is a researcher and manager at IBM Research. Since 2016, he is leading a team of researchers and developers at IBM Blockchain Innovation Center creating innovative solutions on Blockchain for finance, trade and other industries. He offers a rich set of experiences and skills in information technologies and analytics - cognitive computing, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, IoT, business intelligence, business transformation, enterprise architecture, solution architecture, IT strategy, and research management. He is recognized as a strategic and operational manager with deep and broad experience in creating technical innovation, directing R&D, leading innovative organizations and translating technical innovations into profitable business impact.

While at Samsung Techwin, 2014-2016, as a skilled leader and innovator, Juhnyoung directed R&D teams to develop innovative technologies in cloud computing, intelligent video analysis, and user experience for advanced surveillance cameras and recorder products. He also defined and championed its solution business strategy, putting its products and business closer to their customers to deliver more effective solutions.

While at IBM Research, 1997-2014, Juhnyoung managed advanced R&D teams to develop innovative information technologies and analysis solutions to seed emerging new businesses over years. Most recently, he led strategic research initiatives in IBM’s service business operations and delivery. He actively contributed to global team development in both research and service organizations at IBM, mentoring and coaching numerous researchers and practitioners.

Juhnyoung has earned his B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science from Seoul National University in Seoul, Korea, and his Ph.D in Computer Science from University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA. Before joining IBM, he was a senior researcher at Los Alamos National Lab in New Mexico, and at Lexis-Nexis in Ohio.
