I was born in Bikaner, Rajasthan, India. I received a B.Tech. in 1993 from the Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur (IITK), a M.S. in 1995 from the Washington University, St. Louis, MO (WashU), and a Ph.D. in 1999 from the University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), Urbana, IL, all in electrical engineering.
I worked as a Visiting Assistant Professor at UIUC during 1999-2000. In 2000, I joined T. J. Watson Research Center, IBM Corporation, Hawthorne, NY as a Research Staff Member. I have been managing the Network Management Research Group at the Watson Research Center since 2006.
Currently, I am the US Program Director for International Technology Alliance in Network and Information Sciences, a research consortium formed from twenty three US and UK industrial and academic members.
In 2011, I was elected IEEE Fellow for contributions to theory, analysis, and design of efficient, secure, and privacy-preserving communication systems. In 2011, I was also awarded the title of Master Inventor for contributing significant value to IBM's intellectual property portfolio and inventor community.
