I am a Research Staff Member in the USER group at IBM Research - Almaden. I received my Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. My major was Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). My advisor was Brian P. Bailey.
My research in HCI includes the design of new interactive intelligent systems through the development and integration of techniques in crowdsourcing, machine learning, and visualization. My recent work focuses on the design of analytics systems for assessing public perceptions of brands on social media. I have been an Associate Chair on the CHI, and I am currently the Information Director of ACM Transactions on Interactive Intelligent Systems.
For my dissertation, I invented Voyant, a system that leverages a non-expert crowd to generate structured, perception-oriented feedback on visual designs. I am also the founder of crowdfeedback.me, which is based on my dissertation.
