profile

Update: I have recently moved to Northeastern University, where I'm an assistant professor in the College of Computer and Information Science. Please see my upcoming homepage or reach out to me at c.dunne@neu.edu

I worked in IBM Watson Health as part of the Cognitive Visualization Lab. I sat in the Cambridge Research Center.

Please see my old UMD homepage for my projects, publications, and CV. Publication statistics are available from Google Scholar, Microsoft Academic Search, DBLP, ACM DL, IEEE Xplore, Scopus, PubZone, or AMiner.

My research focuses on information visualization, visual analytics, and cognitive computing. In the past I've worked on improving the readability of network visualizations and the application of network analysis techniques to real-world problems. Some examples include visualizing citations in academic literature, interactions of people and organizations, relationships in archaeological dig sites, term co-occurrence, thesaurus category relationships, and computer network traffic flow. I contribute to the NodeXL project, an open source network visualization template for Microsoft Excel.

In 2013 I received my PhD in Computer Science under Ben Shneiderman at the University of Maryland Human Computer Interaction Lab. I earned an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Maryland in 2009 and a B.A. in Computer Science and Mathematics from Cornell College in 2007.
