I am a Research Staff Member at IBM T.J. Watson Research Center, Yorktown Heights, NY. I manage the Advanced Operating Systems team in New York and I'm Principal Investigator in the Exascale Systems Project at IBM Dublin Research&Development Lab.

My primary research interests are operating systems, distributed computing, and high-end computing. A lot of my current work is in cloud computing.

I'm an ACM Distinguished Scientist and an ACM Distinguished Speaker.
I am member of the boards of CRA-W (Computer Research Association's Committee on the Status of Women in Computing Research) and a Committee Member at CDC (Coalition for Diversity in Computing). I'm a co-founder of the Latinas in Computing group. I'm a treasurer at ACM SIGOPS.

I received my PhD in Computer Science in 1997 from Georgia Institute of Technology. I was an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science at University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, from 1997 to 2000.
