Geetika Tewari Lakshmanan is a Research Staff Member in the Service Integration and Analytics group at IBM T. J. Watson Research Center. She received a B.A. degree in Computer Science and Economics from Smith College with Highest Honors in 2002 and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Harvard University in Computer Science in 2005 and 2007 respectively. Geetika completed a Micro MBA program offered by IBM Research in 2011. Geetika is located in IBM, Cambridge, MA .
Geetika received an IBM Eminence & Excellence award for fundamental contributions and technical leadership on the Maricopa project whose goal is to achieve end-to-end monitoring of multi-component, heterogeneous and distributed business processes. This work has contributed a feature in Business Monitor 7.5 released in June 2011.
Geetika has demonstrated research impact in diverse areas of Computer Science including Computer Graphics, Distributed Systems, Event Processing, Business Process Management and Services. Her current focus is on solving problems in process-aware analytics in human centric processes such as healthcare and claims processing. She has published more than 30 peer-reviewed technical papers and received IBM Invention Achievement Plateau awards (40+ patents filed, 12 patents issued) and High Value Patent Application awards for creative contributions to IBM's patent portfolio (2007-2012) in these cross discipline areas. She has been named an IBM Master Inventor in 2013. She is an IEEE Senior Member . She is an ACM Senior Member .
Geetika is actively involved in mentoring students and early-career professionals in Computer Science. She has mentored PhD students interning at IBM Research (2010-present). She also has several PhD student, college and middle school student mentees. She is involved in the Women in Computer Science mentoring program at the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign (UIUC). She is Career Development Co-chair of IEEE Services Computing Conference and volunteers for career panels/events at Harvard University and Boston University. Geetika likes to blog on IBM's Students for a Smarter Planet blog to mentor students with technical interests worldwide.
Among her professional activities, Geetika is guest editing a special issue of IEEE Internet Computing, Special issue on Dynamic Collective Work (2012/2013). She is a PC member of BPM 2014, ICWS - International Conference on Web Services , IEEE Services Computing Conference (SCC) , IEEE Enterprise Computing Conference (EDOC) , and IEEE Big Data Conference 2013. In the past Geetika has served as a guest editor for IEEE Internet Computing, Special issue on Provenance, 2010-2011, and as technical reviewer/PC member for conferences and journals and workshops (BPM, SCC, DISC, EuroPar, ICSOC, COOPIS, SIGGRAPH, ACM Multimedia, IEEE Internet Computing, Elsevier Computational Science, I3 Journal, TC4SP2 workshop at BPM). She co-chaired The First International Workshop on Data Management and Analytics for Semi-Structured Business Processes, in conjunction with the 2011 International Conference on Data Engineering (ICDE).
