Alexander Velizhev joined the IBM Research – Zurich Laboratory as a Post-doctoral research fellow in 2017. He is a member of the Robotics team led by Martin Rufli.

Dr. Velizhev's main research interests are image processing & computer vision, including image-based 3D reconstruction, SLAM/structure-from-motion, feature tracking & matching, and point cloud classification, as well as machine learning, including semantic segmentation and object recognition for semantic mapping purposes.

Before joining IBM Research, Alexander worked as a research engineer for modeling & algorithms in the Imaging group at
Leica Geosystems / Hexagon, Switzerland. Prior to that, he served as CEO at GeoCV, Russia, a start-up for automated 3D city modelling.

Alexander Velizhev received his PhD and MD degrees (with honors) in Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing from the Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography in 2008 and 2005, respectively.
