Dr. Ton Engbersen has been with IBM since 1980. His career has spanned such diverse areas as image processing, chip design, communications technology, server technology, legacy management and innovation in outsourcing.
Throughout the years he has held a range of management positions in Research and Development in Switzerland and in the US.
Ton has been a member of the IBM Academy of Technology since 1994.
He is currently manager of Energy Management Research at IBM Research – Zurich, Scientific Director of ASTRON & IBM Center of Exascale Technology in conjunction with the DOME project. He also serves as scientific director of the European Research Center for Exascale Technology (ERCET), a joint venture of UG, UMCG, ASTRON and IBM Research.
Ton holds a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Eindhoven University, The Netherlands, and a PhD from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich.
In January of 2016, Ton was appointed honorary professor of Data Science Engineering in the Institute of Artificial Intelligence & Cognitive Engineering (ALICE) of the Mathematics and Nature Science department at the University of Groningen.
