Mathematical Sciences Community - Australia - overview

The Australian Mathematical Sciences Community consists of researchers with expertise in a variety of areas. Members of the team have worked in many different industries with a range of clients and industry partners. The overall focus of the team is the link between predictive modelling and mathematical optimisation. Predictive modelling involves generating predictions of the future state of systems or values of parameters. Mathematical optimisation answers questions about decision-making by finding a set of decisions that ensure a certain constraints are met while improving the overall value of the solution.

The group is currently involved in a number of projects around the lab and IBM Research globally: understanding the location of underground natural resources from limited data, optimising strategic planning for a hospital, as well as working on predictive maintenance, mine de-watering, and incremental network design among others.
