It is often desirable to have an optical means for modifying a non-uniform intensity distribution. We describe a technique employing beam folding through the use of a wedged mirror tunnel to produce intensity distributions approaching the flat-top case. Computer simulation of the device performance is described and experimental results are shown in which the intensity variations are reduced to ±1.5 percent. © 1984.
