The dynamic bubble collapse characteristics of S = I and S = 0 bubbles in ion-implanted films have been studied in the presence of a moderate in-plane field. The influence of the pulse shape and in--plane field has been measured in detail, and the results demonstrate that S=1 (120) and S = 0 bubbles are clearly discriminated by applying a single collapse pulse with an appropriate pulse shape. The bias field margin is not so large (about 6 to 7 Oe) for the measured 5 µm bubbles, but it is tunable by changing the pulse width. The method provides a simple and quick discrimination scheme especially useful for the field-access bubble lattice file memory. © 1979 IEEE
