Photonic crystal nanobeam cavities with an ultrahigh quality factor-to-modal volume ratio

We describe the design, fabrication, and characterization of 1-dimensional silicon photonic crystal cavities with quality factor-to-modal volume ratios greater than 106 in which the maximum of the electric field is in air. © 2013 IEEE.
