Dr. John Wagner is a Research Staff Member on the Blockchain Research and Development team in IBM Research-Australia, and is the former manager of the IBM Research Collaboratory for Life Sciences–Melbourne. He obtained his BS, MS and PhD in Applied Mathematics from University of California, Davis, Computational Cell Biology where he worked on cellular calcium regulation with Joel Keizer at the Institute of Theoretical Dynamics. John then received an NIH NRSA Postdoctoral Fellowship, working with Les Loew at the National Resource for Cellular Analysis and Modeling at the University of Connecticut Health Center. During this time, John worked with fifteen other researchers from around the world to complete the text, Computational Cell Biology, that Joel Keizer was working on when he passed away, and was an active member of the Systems Biology Markup Language community

Since joining IBM in 2004, John has worked on problems in protein science, genomics, cancer, neuroscience, network analysis and blockchain. Since joining IBM Research, John has authored over 30 research papers, filed more than 60 patent applications and been awarded 35 patents.
