Dr. Hsin-Hao Yu holds a BA degree in Applied Mathematics (National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan), and a PhD degree in Cognitive Science (University of California San Diego, USA). He studied the architecture of the visual cortex using electrophysiological recordings, imaging, and computational modelling from 2008 to 2018 at Monash University (Department of Physiology), and has published research papers, review papers, and book chapters in leading neuroscience journals such as Current Biology and the Journal of Neuroscience. He received the Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) in 2013. He was a group leader at Monash University from 2015-2018, with fundings from the Australia Research Council (ARC) and the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). His work in neuroscience includes topics such as neuroplasticity, the coding of visual information in the cortex, the evolution of the brain, and the mapping of the visual cortex. He identified a new area in the visual cortex in 2013.
Dr. Yu joined IBM Research Australia in 2018 to focus on the development of machine learning algorithms for the analysis of biomedical images
