Bassem Makni is a research staff member at IBM's T.J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, New York in the AI Science - Reasoning group at IBM Research AI.
His background includes ontological reasoning, knowledge representation, Semantic Web, noise-tolerant reasoning, building ontologies from texts and Neural-Symbolic Learning and Reasoning.
He is currently expanding his research focus from description logic to more complex higher order logic and to automated theorem proving. He is also interested in combining knowledge representation and reasoning with neural approaches in order to improve on natural language understanding tasks-including textual entailment and complex question answering.
He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science in Spring 2018 from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he worked on Deep Learning for Noise-tolerant RDFS reasoning.
