Deval joined the Epilepsy Research Team at IBM Research Labs Australia as a Postdoctoral Researcher in early 2020 where he works on the research and development of deep learning and machine learning techniques for non-invasive video sensors based detection of neurological diseases such as Epilepsy and Parkinson's. His research interests lie in the domain of computer vision where he predominantly works to build deep learning networks for various tasks such as video activity recognition, object detection, image classification.
Before joining IBM, he was working in the capacity of a Senior R&D Engineer at Panasonic R&D Center Singapore, where he developed light weight deep learning networks for privacy preserved human activity recognition for smart home applications.
Prior to starting his industrial career, he completed his Ph.D. from School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore under the guidance of Associate Professor Shoushun Chen. During his Ph.D., he worked at the Satellite Research Center at NTU developing high accuracy star trackers for nanosatellites.
