Ella is a postdoctoral researcher at IBM, with focus on designing and developing novel AI techniques, including the application of NLP, to various industries. She loves to learn and discover new things, dig into data, solve complex and interesting tasks, make forecasts and look into the future.
Before joining IBM, she received her PhD in Computer Science and Engineering at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), and CSIRO's Data61, Sydney, Australia. Her research interests fall within the fields of Computational Linguistics, Computational Biology, Machine Learning, and Social Media Mining. Her PhD research was focused on making abstractive text summarization more dynamic to different sources and types of text, more adaptable to a wide range of applications, and better evaluated using semantic representations, which resulted in high quality publications in top-ranked conferences and journals such as EMNLP, COLING, CoNLL, JMLR, JASIST, etc..
