Dr. Matt Benatan joined IBM Research in 2018 as a Research Software Engineer in Machine Learning and AI. Matt has experience in researching and applying ML in a number of domains, including Computer Vision, Speech Processing, and Digital Signal Processing.
Matt completed his doctoral studies in Computer Science at the University of Leeds in collaboration with industry partner ZOO Digital, where his work focused on the development of novel machine learning methods for audio-visual speech processing. After his PhD, Matt joined a small research team at Midas Consoles (Music Tribe) in Manchester, where he researched novel machine learning solutions for high performance professional audio products.
Matt is involved in the research and development of Bayesian machine learning methods, which incorporates Bayesian Optimisation, scalable Bayesian methods, and Bayesian Neural Networks.
