Travis Smith is a the Chief Architect for IBM's Watson Media and Weather Business Unit joining IBM as part of The Weather Company (TWC) acquisition. Based in Atlanta, GA USA, Travis oversees the architecture and application design for all consumer products including, but not limited to, The Weather Channel Flagship mobile apps, the digital web properties (namely weather.com and wunderground.com), and the studio and video systems. He is also responsible for the enterprise architecture and platform integrations of all backend systems and edge networks to ensure high availability, large-scale delivery, and optimal performance enabling over 300 million users to consume weather information and stories. Travis co-led the transformation and TWC's migration to IBM Cloud as well as the COVID-19 Data Platform powering accelerator.weather.com and weather.com/coronavirus.
Most importantly, Travis is always seeking to improve any product and make his colleagues and himself better by mentoring others, sharing his knowledge and experience, and always improving his technical skills. He is a husband to a wonderful wife and father of four awesome kids. When not coding, thinking through digital problems, and enjoying his family, Travis enjoys mentoring high school students, playing Ultimate Frisbee and volleyball, and reading books.
