William is a research scientist at IBM Research Africa. He conducts research on the development and evaluation of a novel health information exchange platform for patient-controlled data sharing. He also does research on applied subset scanning for detecting anomalous patterns of care in electronic health records as well as on the application of machine learning algorithms to study vulnerability in maternal, newborn, and child health. William holds a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from the University of Nairobi, as well as a PhD degree in biomedical informatics from Columbia University in the City of New York. His overarching career interests lie in designing, developing, and evaluating technologies for generating and sharing insights from clinical and research data to improve quality and continuity of care.
