Xiaotong Liu is a Research Staff Member at IBM Research-Almaden. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the Ohio State University. His research interests lie in visual analytics, data visualization, human-computer interaction and machine learning. His advisor was Dr. Han-Wei Shen.
Xiaotong's dissertation Visual Exploration and Comparative Analytics of Multidimensional Data Sets has contributed to the design and understanding of comparative visualization and analysis methods in visual exploration of multidimensional data for discovering knowledge, making decisions and communicating insights within multi-faceted data spaces.
Xiaotong has published papers in top conferences and journals such as VAST, SciVis, TVCG, CGF, SIGCHI, WWW and Information Visualization. He interned at various leading research laboratories, including AT&T Shannon Research Lab, IBM Watson / IBM Research-Almaden and Microsoft Research Asia. Recently, Xiaotong (with several other researchers from industry) gave a tutorial on "Vis+ML: Symbiosis of Visualization and Machine Learning" at IEEE VIS 2017.
