Research Staff Member - Optimization and Control
Ireland Research Lab, Dublin, Ireland

I joined IBM's Dublin Research Lab in January 2016.

Before that, I was a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara (Go Gauchos!), where I also got my PhD and Master's degrees (2014/2011), both in Electrical Engineering.

My undergraduate degree - a German "Diplom Ingenieur" in Engineering Cybernetics - is from the Otto-von-Guericke University in Magdeburg (2008).

My research interests lie in mathematical modeling and control and any applications thereof, for instance in thermoacoustics, traffic networks, and biological systems.

Currently, I work on applications of computer vision, bio-physical modelling, and machine learning to cancer treatement, see also this recent post on the IBM Research Blog. The project is funded by the Irish government under the Disruptive Technologies Innovation Fund (DTIF) and is done in partnership with the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland and University College Dublin.
