He has been with the speech technology group at IBM Research - Tokyo since he joined IBM in April 2005. His research interests include automatic speech recognition, deep learning, and auditory signal processing. He received a Ph.D in Engineering from Toyohashi University of Technology in 2005. His contributions span the entire area of speech recognition, resulting in scientific papers, patents, invited talks, and awards as well as major accomplishments in business. He is an IBM Global Master Inventor and a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), the Information Processing Society of Japan (IPSJ), and the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE).
