'Data Science' is statistics done on a Mac. -Big Data Borat
Skyler uses Machine Learning and Data Science to impact peoples' lives across the continent of Africa. He is a member of the "Inclusive Financial Services" team at the Kenya Lab.
He measures inclusion at the transaction level and believes all financial transactions, even simple ones like topping up a phone, can be used to enable access to deeper services such as savings and credit accounts.
Most recently Skyler has been working on credit decisioning project which uses a customer's cell phone data to create a credit worthiness score.
Skyler received a Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University. He was a founding member of the Event & Pattern Detection Lab. Before CMU he earned master degrees in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Kentucky. He lives in Nairobi, Kenya with his wife and young son.
