Abdul is currently working as a Research Staff Member at the IBM Almaden Research Center. He joined IBM Research in Jan 2016 after obtaining his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Maryland at College Park in Dec 2015 where he was advised by Prof Amol Deshpande. Previously, Abdul served as an officer in the Communication Corps of the Indian Armed Forces. He is a graduate of the Indian National Defense Academy at Khadakwasla, Pune. He received a B.S. in Electronics and Teleommunication from the Military College of Telecommunication Engineering (JNU), New Delhi, and a M.S. in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.
Abdul's primary research interests are in building the next generation big data enrichment, integration and analytics systems and pipelines for supporting AI applications in the Healthcare and Finance domains. He is currently focussing on Natural Language Interfaces to data including Conversational AI systems, Recommender Systems for data exploration, Ontology creation and mapping using Deep Learning techniques, Network Representation Learning using Graph Neural Networks.
In the recent past Abdul has also worked on designing and building an IBM Watson cognitive analytics platform that provides cloud services for reating and querying domain specific knowledge bases. The work involved analyzing and integrating multiple semi-structured and un-structured content sources and building cognitive querying systems that utilize ontologies, and expose natural language interfaces.
