I lead and conduct research on science, software, and systems for applying bacterial genomics and metagenomics to improve food safety. Particular topics of current interest include:
- Bacterial Genome Analytics: How can we rapidly compare environmentally collected bacteria to facilitate source tracking and to assess the degree of hazard they represent?
- Metagenomic anomaly detection: How can we use variations in the microbiome measured in a factory to get an early warning of emerging problems such as structural contamination?
- Cloud deployment of genome tools: How should we design systems for deep analytics for agile deployment in the cloud and direct use by customers?
