Juergen is a Research Staff Member in the Multilingual Natural Language Processing group at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY. He is currently involved with IBM's offering on Real Time Translation Services (RTTS) and with the group's offering of NLP web services on the IBM Watson Developer Cloud for building cognitive applications. His main research interests include scalable natural language processing and large scale database systems.
Prior to joining IBM Research in 2014, Juergen received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Freie Universität Berlin, Germany, in 2013. In his Ph.D. project, Juergen examined the applicability of distant supervision techniques for fine-grained sentiment analysis. He published on NLP and database topics.
During his Ph.D. he worked as a research assistant in the Databases and Information Systems Group at Freie Universität Berlin where he taught graduate and undergraduate courses on NLP and Database Systems. Juergen supervised more than 30 MSc/BSc projects.
