Dr. Mahmoud Naghshineh is Vice President, Industries and Solutions, IBM Research. He is responsible for IBM’s worldwide research and innovation in the transformation of industries through data. This includes emerging industries such as biospace, personalized healthcare and education, energy and agriculture, as well as innovative cross-industry solution technologies including customer experience, Smarter Commerce, mobile, Internet of Things, analytics and mathematical optimization. He is a board member of IBM Industry Academy.

From 2011 to 2013 he was Vice President, Services Research and Services Innovation Lab responsible for IBM's worldwide research efforts in services science, and services innovation in support of IBM’s Technology and Business Services. From 2010 to 2011 he was VP of Technology for IBM Global Technology Services business. From 2005 to 2010, he was the director of services systems at IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center with worldwide responsibility for next generation IT services Systems, technologies, processes and tools. From 2003 to 2005, Mahmoud was a partner at IBM Business Consulting Services, responsible for industry alliances. Prior to that, he was the director of emerging markets at IBM Systems and Technology Group. From 1990 to 2002, he worked at IBM Research and led areas of software and services related to Web-based infrastructure, mobile and wireless, secure computing platforms, telecommunications services, and service quality. He joined IBM Systems Group in 1988.

In 2002, Mahmoud was elected as a Fellow of the IEEE. He has led industry groups, National Science Foundation, and government research conferences and workshops. He has served as the editor-in-chief of IEEE Wireless Communications Magazine, program co-chair of MobiCom 2001, and chairperson for many IEEE/ACM conferences. He was an adjunct professor at the department of electrical engineering, Columbia University from 1997 to 2001. He has published over 100 technical papers and holds a number of IBM outstanding recognition awards and patents. He received his doctoral degree from Columbia University, New York.
