Quanfu Fan is a research staff member at IBM T. J. Watson Research Center. His research interests cover multiple aspects of computer vision, including image and video understanding, human activity recognition and video analytics. Currently he is leading a project on retail fraud detection using video analytics, which aims at helping retailers significantly reduce retail shrinkage.
Before joining IBM in 2008, he obtained his PhD degree in Computer Science at the University of Arizona. His PhD work focused on making educational video more accessible in long distance learning. He developed a system SLIC (Semantically Linked Instructional Content) to assist students and scholars to efficiently browse videos of lectures and talks.
