Shubhi Asthana           

Shubhi Asthana is a Senior Research Software Engineer at IBM Almaden Research Center in San Jose, CA with extensive work in service computing research. Her research and development work is in the area of Cloud Services, IoT & Predictive Analytics. She has demonstrated innovation and impactful contribution in handling services project and delivering them to business at IBM Services.

Shubhi has successfully led projects in services computing and data analytics with business impact. In 2020-2022, she led a financial services based risk analytics solution for a customer. Shubhi rapidly architected and delivered an innovative solution thataccurately predicts when customer would exhaust their PO funds using a combination of machine learning and software engineering. The project was presented at top tier conferences such as KDD, IEEE Services etc. Shubhi also received the IBM Research’s Outstanding Technical Achievement Award 2021 for leading this project.

Shubhi has worked on building data analytical tools that are used by IBM Services. To give a brief description, IBM Services competes to win highly valued IT service contracts. To help them be more competitive and win more deals, Shubhi led the research and development team to invent the service tools that leverage novel analytics and OR methods. She worked on these tools between 2015 and 2019. The details of this accomplishment have been published in detail in 2020 journal paper “Analytics and Operations Research Increases Win Rates for IBM’s Information Technology Service Deals” in the INFORMS Journal on Applied Analytics. To recognize the project’s business impact, her team was awarded the IBM Corporate Award 2020. Shubhi was also awarded with Outstanding Technical Achievement Awards in 2018, 2019 for her contribution in research and development of toolset that performs various actions.

Shubhi has filed 15+ patents since 2016 in the areas of service computing, Internet of Things as a Service, Enterprise services as well as innovative service applications. For her filed patents, she received the 2021 Society of Women Engineer’s Patent Recognition award. Shubhi’s research work has appeared at different top-tier services and machine learning conferences including ICSOC, NeurIPS, KDD, ICAIF, IEEE SCC, IEEE BigData & INFORMS. Her capabilities of showing research in academic settings, technical depth and communication in easy-to-understand language can be evident from her 28 published papers in the services computing area.

5. ACM SIGSOFT Distinguished Paper award at ASE 2022 conference

She has been at IBM Research since 2015. Previously, she worked for a year at AirWatch by VMware as Applications Engineer. Shubhi completed her undergraduate studies in Electronics and Telecommunications engineering in 2012, and her master’s in computer engineering in 2014.
