Yousaf is a Research Staff Member at IBM T. J. Watson Research Center. He received PhD and M.S degrees in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Troy NY, in 2011 and 2014 respectively. He received his undergarduate degree in Information Technology from National University of Sciences and Technology(NUST) Pakistan. He has worked as researcher for various research programs such as the ITA (International Technology Alliance): Collaboration among industry and academia of US and UK, ARL Social Cognitive Network Academic Research Center (SCNARC), Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) at CERN, Geneva Switzerland and the Blue Brain Project at EPFL, Lausanne Switzerland.
His research work focuses on deep learning based techniques for time-series analysis, cognitive technologies for NLP, security mechanisms for Big Data analytics platforms, security for data-at-rest in the cloud and service provisioning in cloud. His paper on "Data-at-rest Security for Spark" received 'Best Application Paper' award at the 2016 IEEE International Conference on BigData (IEEE BigData 2016). Previously, he has worked as a Scientific Associate at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. At CERN, he worked on the research and development of the control and safety system for the CMS Tracker detector.
