Waheeda Saib is a Researcher and IBM Q ambassador at IBM Research-Africa in Johannesburg, South Africa.
As an IT professional with over 10 years of experience, she has a proven track record in development of high - quality software systems and technical innovations. Her areas of expertise include: Data Science, Machine Learning /Deep Learning, Software quality assurance, User interface design and technologies, Graphic visualizations, Human computer interaction, Mobile computing, Programming languages, Software and process engineering, back end development and project management. She has held various roles from software quality assurance analyst, automation engineer to Application engineer and has worked on large-scale enterprise solutions in the Insurance and Corporate Banking industry respectively.
At IBM Research Africa, Data driven healthcare team, she researches and develops novel machine learning applications in collaboration with research scientists and institutes to meet South Africa’s grand challenges in Cancer. Recent work includes development of a Deep Learning approach to classify cancer pathology reports and extract disease insights from medical embeddings. She currently leads a team of researchers on a cancer project that aims to address South Africa and Africa’s cancer reporting delay using machine learning.
In her additional role as IBM Q ambassador, she represents IBM Q at Quantum Conferences and Tech events in Africa, to promote quantum computing and its relevance to the African continent.
Waheeda holds a BSc in information Technology from the University of Kwazulu Natal. She is currently completing a Masters in Data Science and Quantum Informatics from the University of Edinburgh.
