Michalis Vlachos' research interests span in the areas of business analytics, data mining and recommender systems.
Currently, he is with IBM Research in Zurich. From 2004-2008, he was with the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center, NY. During the summer of 2003, he also visited Microsoft Research.
In 2018, Dr. Vlachos was inducted into the IBM Academy of Technology, one of the company's highest technical honors, in recognition of his technical leadership achievements.
Dr. Vlachos received his BSc in Informatics from the Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, Riverside, and an MBA from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He has been a recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship and a Marie-Curie International Reintegration Grant.
At IBM, Dr. Vlachos has received seven Technical Accomplishment Awards and five Invention Plateau Awards. From 2011-2016, he was the scientific director for the European Research Council project "Exact Mining from InExact Data." His work has led to 100+ publications and patents.
