Model-Driven Health Tools (MDHT) - overview
The Healthcare Industry has many complex IT standards and a dearth of IT tooling to aid in their implementation. IBM's contribution to Model Driven Health Tools is 3-fold in addressing this challenge. First, it provides a tooling foundation for developing healthcare standards using contemporary software modeling technology instead of proprietary methods (ex. Microsoft Vision) and thus, created new developmental methodologies for healthcare standards whose products (software, documentation) are more easily maintained and reused. Second, collaborating with industry members, we used the tooling to create the foremost reference implementation of HL7 Clinical Document Architecture (CDA), a standard that is required to be implemented by new US government legislation . This implementation has been used in successful IBM customer engagements. Third, working in open source we have fostered a community around model driven standards development and have influenced the way healthcare standard organizations now create their standards.
