Eclipse IDE - Integrated Development Environment - overview

Software Engineering Accomplishment | 2001

IBM researchers: TBD

Where the work was done: IBM T.J. Watson Research Center

What we accomplished: From Wikipedia: Eclipse is an integrated development environment (IDE). It contains a base workspace and an extensible plug-in system for customizing the environment.

From the Eclipse Wiki: "Eclipse started out as proprietary technology, led by IBM’s subsidiary, Object Technology International (OTI). ... The Eclipse open source project was announced in November 2001 by a group of companies that formed the initial Eclipse Consortium. From there, the small initial project burgeoned into a collection of related projects that formed the basis of dozens of commercial applications."
