Fractals - Mandelbrot Set - overview
Visualization Accomplishment | 1980
IBM researcher: Benoit Mandebrot
Where the work was done: IBM T.J. Watson Research Center
What we accomplished: Pioneering development and visualization of fractals. Adapted from Wikipedia: Mandelbrot (pictured) used a computer to plot images of the Julia sets (which, in the context of complex dynamics, is a topic of mathematics). While investigating the topology of these Julia sets, Mandelbrot studied the Mandelbrot set fractal that is now named after him.
