2020

• To assist in the important problem of table extraction, we have released the FinTabNet financial table dataset. The dataset contains complex tables from annual reports of S&P 500 companies with detailed ground truth for table structure recognition.
• Domenico Lembo, Yunyao Li, Lucian Popa, Kun Qian, and Frederico Scafoglieri received the ISWC 2020 best poster or demo award for their work "Ontology Mediated Information Extraction with MASTRO SYSTEM-T".
• Assisting in the effort of creating a dataset of scientific articles related to COVID-19, our team partnered with Allen Institute for AI to add table information to the COVID-19 Open Research Dataset (CORD-19). Take a look at the IBM Research blog describing the effort and the research paper describing the generation of the CORD-19 dataset.
• Lucian Popa received jointly with Ron Fagin, Phokion Kolaitis, Renée Miller, and Wang-Chiew Tan the 2020 Alonzo Church Award for Outstanding Contributions to Logic and Computation.
• Explainablility for NLP is an emerging field and one of the key areas that our team is exploring. Take a look at the recent IBM Research blog that covers one of our recent projects on exploring explainability for text based AI tasks.
