Dr. Rodrigo Neumann is a Research Scientist at the IBM Research center in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Since August 2013 he is part of the Industrial Technology and Science group, led by Dr. Mathias Steiner.
Rodrigo has a BSc in Physics (2008, Cum Laude) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and a PhD in Physics (2013) from UFRJ with a sandwich PhD fellowship from the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP - Trieste, Italy). In his PhD thesis entitled "Multiscale magnetism: from first-principles to finite temperature", he studied magnetic nanostructures with a multiscale computational approach aiming at their technological applications.
Rodrigo's current research interests are in the field of carbon capture, storage and sequestration in porous media, considering both artificial nanoporous materials as well as naturally-occurring porous rocks. He is working on developing and extending computational screening techniques to discover and optimise materials that can enhance the carbon removal potential of various industrial processes.
Outside of working hours he enjoys photography, studying foreign languages and watching TV series.
