profile

Gaetano Rossiello is a Research Scientist at IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center. His research interests include Natural Language Processing (NLP), Knowledge Representation and Reasoning (KRR), and Machine Learning (ML).

He is working on distributional and relational semantics aiming to create deep learning models able to understand textual contents and organize them in structured data sources, such as knowledge bases. The outcome of his research finds applications in information extraction, information retrieval, and question answering with the goal to enhance knowledge discovery in enterprise systems.

The results of Gaetano's work are published in top-tier conferences in the field of artificial intelligence, as well as he is the inventor of several U.S. patents. He received an IBM outstanding research accomplishment for contributions to "GTS TSS Multi-Vendor Services Transformation" and a research accomplishment for the "Deep Thinking Question Answering" project.

He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Mathematics from the University of Bari "Aldo Moro" in Italy under the guidance of his advisor Prof. Giovanni Semeraro. His Ph.D. thesis "Leveraging Distributional and Relational Semantics for Knowledge Extraction from Textual Corpora" has been selected as the best thesis in AI, an award organized by the Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence (AIxIA).

In a parallel dimension, Gaetano spends his time rockin' on his guitars and composing music. He is a member of the metal bands Twilight Gate and Vinterblot with which he released music albums and performed live in several venues.
