Ching-Huei Tsou, Ph.D., is a research scientist and manager of the clinical natural language processing (NLP) group in the Healthcare and Life Sciences department at IBM Research. His areas of expertise include machine learning, NLP, and software engineering. Dr. Tsou joined IBM’s Jeopardy-wining research team in 2012 and has been leading the initiatives of shifting the research emphasis from general question-answering to exploring the use of NLP to benefit healthcare. His current research interest is in building health informatics to support clinical decision-making and accelerate drug discovery and development, specifically, in extracting clinical insights and generating summarizations from unstructured patient records and medical literature.
Prior to joining IBM, for 6 years, Dr. Tsou was the principal software architect of LightPharma Inc., a Cambridge, MA-based software company specialized in pharmaceutical manufacturing process control. During the same period, he was also a research scientist at MIT Auto-ID lab. Dr. Tsou holds a Ph.D. and M.Eng. in Information Technology from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a BS from National Taiwan University.
