Quantum Computing - overview

It is anticipated that quantum computers will solve certain problems asymptotically faster than their classical counterparts. This exciting new model of computation also comes with unique challenges which derive from the quantum mechanical behavior of the underlying hardware. As quantum computation becomes commercially available, it is increasingly essential to obtain integrated insights regarding algorithm design, error correction or mitigation, software environment, and the mapping of real-life applications to quantum or hybrid quantum-classical devices. The mission of the Quantum Computing PIC is to facilitate discussion (internally and externally), knowledge transfer and collaborative research in the broad field of quantum computing and quantum information, and in particular to address the focal areas described below.

Focal Areas:

  1. Quantum computing algorithms and complexity theory
  2. Quantum simulation
  3. Quantum information theory
  4. Quantum computing architectures
  5. Error correction and fault tolerant quantum computation
  6. Quantum computing software stack
  7. Quantum computing applications
